Seven Point Teaching Interaction

The Seven Point Teaching Interaction is an artificial behavioral way of speaking with a child in an effort to assist a change in behaviors from undesirable to desirable. The practitioner of this method will become increasingly more comfortable with the language with practice. Use the full method whenever possible. Shortened versions are acceptable when necessary and/or just appropriate. Consistency is an essential key in successful out-comes with this method. Remember that this method is to be used when attempting behavior change and is not meant to replace valuable normal conversation.

Example:

(1) Well Thomas, it's good to see you showing attention to Lupe. (2) However, by grabbing his head and twisting it that way you might kill him and wind yourself up in jail. (3) It would be much better if you showed him attention by asking him to play a game with you instead. (4) That way you will get to not only be with him, you will also have more fun and stay out of jail. (5) Let me show you. Lupe, would you like to play checkers with me? (6) Now Thomas how about you trying it? No not by pulling on him. Try it again without actually touching him. Good! (7) Now to help you remember to do this in the future I'm recording a minus tally for " Not Keeping Hands To Yourself" and a bonus tally for " Accepting Instruction."
